Land Acknowledgment
The Clarity office resides on the traditional territories of the Haudenosaunee (including the Six Nations), Anishnawbe (including the Missisaugas of the Credit First Nation), and Attawandaron Peoples, on the Haldimand Tract. The Haldimand Tract comprises six miles on either side of the Grand River from end-to-end, on land ceded by the Missisaugas of the Credit to the British Crown. The Crown granted the Haldimand Tract to the Six Nations (Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga, Oneida, Mohawk, and Tuscarora) in recognition of their land that was lost in the American War of Independence and ingratitude for their alliance with the Crown. Of the 950,000 hectares granted, less than 5% of that remains with these nations now. The Attawandaron Peoples no longer exists as a modern nation today due to colonization and genocide. At Clarity, we are committed to decolonizing our practice, incorporating anti-racist and anti-oppressive principles, and continuing our education about the lands we inhabit, its caretakers, and our roles in reconciliation.
